I haven’t stopped listening to the Ladies Gun Club EP since the release party, which was doubled-billed with Brian Wright’s last concert of the year — aka it was an evening of music and love and laughter and everything amazing in life and I walked out the door just as the clock ticked over into my birthday. It was perfect, except for the Mexican radio station that kept mysteriously playing through one speaker — which ruined nothing, since it was a frustration and then a joke we all shared.
The EP is layered and thick and comforting and fun and folky and full of truisms and has not left my car’s CD player since I bought it, though it has had to share listening time with my AUX input and Arcade Fire. All good stuff.
It was a treat to discover someone recorded “Legs” from the release concert. Nothing can quite compare to a pregnant Sally Jaye singing about her family with her new musical partner in a venue that doesn’t quite deserve the name.
PS: go listen to “Loaded Gun” (written by Brian!) on the LGC site.
