I had to enforce DMCA takedown notices at my last job. It was the part of my job I liked the least since the notices employed the same intimidation techniques Joel has faced, which all amount to, “you’ve probably done something naughty, comply with our demands or you’ll be sorry.” Should artists be paid for their creative works? Yes. Does the RIAA represent artists well? No.
