turnabout:

… The first shot turned out to be the best

We call this time of year our anniverary, Elisabeth and I do. Strictly speaking our anniversary is over, as her birthday was Friday and our loose recollection of meeting has only ever been narrowed down to between our birthdays our first year in college.

(Don’t call it freshman year; we went to a women’s college.)

They tell you the people you meet in college will be important in your life but I’ve never been good at listening to them, whoever they are. And either way, I’ve never been good at making anything easy on myself. But over a decade later I can say they were right — not in the way I met the right people to have the right type of career or some rot like that but in the way I don’t know who I would be without having the lasting yet changing and strong but unsentimental friendship of one Ms. Elisabeth B.

I’m not sentimental by nature but tonight with her and Jon I felt wrapped in the emotional blanket of memories, friendships, and fancy beers. Thank you, NYC, for letting me come home every now and again.
